Looking for Answers
We place a high value on answers in our culture. Having the "right" answers is the gateway to...
...getting the good grade, promotion, or advancement
...being seen and respected
...being listened to and taken seriously
...proving ourselves worthy
Yet, answers are inherently limited. They represent a stopping point. Something to check off the list. If we take them off their high pedestal, we can see them for what they are; Just another data point. A dot on a map.
People spend their whole lives searching for answers and wind up spinning themselves in circles. Years go by wondering and wishing for the clarity of an answer that will allow you to move forward. Stuck.
Answers are nice, but they're not particularly useful.
I'll take a better question, or a 'next step' over an answer any day. Because better questions invite us into undiscovered realms, and next steps keep us on the path- one foot in front of the other.
As Steve Jobs said, "You can't connect the dots looking forward; You can only connect them looking backwards."
Next steps will get you where you want to go a lot faster, even if you don't yet know the details of the destination.
What's your next step?
The Mystic Next Door
