The Art of Giving

Giving is an art. It's one of the most profound spiritual practices of all time. All the great teachers and philosophies talked about it.

In the yogic tradition, it's called karma yoga; selfless service, and to tell you the truth, most people really make a mess of it.

The trick is to give your gift without expecting anything in return.

Read that last part again...

Without expecting ANYTHING in return.

See, as soon as you expect something in return, you're no longer giving; you're making…

Nothing Happens without THIS

Nothing happens without faith.

You sleep with faith that the roof over your head won’t cave in on you.

You get in your car with faith that it was designed well enough to to get you where to go without falling apart.

You speed down a dark highway with faith in your headlights to show you the next 100 feet, and the next...

...from the mundane to the sublime.

If you look deeply enough, you’ll find that faith reaches into every last corner of our world; trusting the innumerable unseen hands tha…

The Everything Antidote

A little dose of this ancient antidote goes a long ways, but don't worry, it's not the kind of medicine that poisons you if you take too much. In fact, the more the better. It's literally impossible to overdo it.

What's this wonder drug?

Forgiveness.

Real forgiveness- not the hallow shadow that passes for forgiveness in a world too busy being offended to look at themselves.

Fake forgiveness sounds like, "You're a jerk, but I forgive you because I'm the bigger person."

Or, "I forgive yo…

To be sovereign

To be sovereign is to possess total control and power. It is to be a supreme authority; to rule a specific domain.

It’s basically to be the ninja of your own personal universe

Many confuse being sovereign with being able to do whatever they want, whenever they want. (You know the type- I’m going to meditate on the beach for 2 hours then smoke a lot of weed. )

But they miss the true spirit of what it means to sovereign.

They pursue every desire and impulse because they can, or rather, they ca…

It's totally ok...

It's totally ok for you to be exactly where you are.

In this moment, you can't be anywhere else anyway. So you may as well make peace with where you are.

Because the more you resist it...

...the frustrations

...the not good enough's

...the should's, would's, and could's...

...the more stuck you'll be.

So put your hand on your heart, close your eyes, and repeat after me.

"It's totally ok to be exactly where I am."

Let's be clear, it's not an excuse to opt-out. No. It's permission to…

The Hidden Corners of Your Heart

Who doesn't love happy thoughts? Warm fuzzy feelings invite us into deeper receptivity, and joy is a natural outcome of that receptivity.

But here's the thing...

You don't need to train yourself to be more positive; Love and peace and joy is your natural state. It's just that in a noisy, chaotic world, those parts get often get obscured.

Your Infinite Wisdom

It's true. The great ones and holy ones have been saying it for eons...

You're omniscient; all knowing.

Everything you've ever wanted is within you.

But never forget...

Those same great ones and holy ones had help to come to that realization. They didn't do it in a vacuum.

The had teachers. They had guides. They had community.

So don't let the idea that 'all the answers are within you' get you stuck- thinking you have you figure it all our yourself. Because it still counts even if you h…

On Shame and Humility

Somewhere along the way, shame and humility got twisted up.

As if you have to put yourself down in order to be humble.

We self-deprecate to show how 'real' we are. And that's only on the outside. On the inside we're our own worst critic. The nagging voice that never quits.

It's a tool we use to push ourselves to greater achievements. Shame keeps us from getting complacent.

But what if there were a better way?

A way to say, "My best is enough; I am enough...

...and I can continue to be…

Enthusiasm

Enthusiasm is a beautiful thing. But don't let it fool you.

The bright-eyed and bushy-tailed energy of enthusiasm is easy to come by when things are fresh and new- this is the honeymoon of any endeavor.

But where does enthusiasm go when challenges arrive on the scene?

Does it vanish as quickly as it came when the monotonous repetition required for mastery sets in?

There is a difference between enthusiasm and commitment. You can see it in the eyes if you know what to look for; it's writt…
